“PP 58 Final Chair by Hans Wegner for PP Mobler, 1987

Available to view in store

Aged 73 in 1987, Hans J. Wegner, constructed his final dining chair and was determined to allow all the design versions to be guided by everything he had learned from his past works.

Wegner explained to Master Craftsman Ejnar Pedersen in the PP Møbler’s workshop the three main considerations
when designing of the final dining chair:
“The chair must allow one to be seated in alternate positions and still be comfortable.
The chair must provide the correct support for the elbows and the back.
The chair must have plenty of space below the back rest, in order to leave plenty of room for the behind”.

Comprising of solid wood joined with tenons proved by testing each joint to withstand one ton of pulling strength, the chair is destined to outlast daily use for generations. The Final Chair is testament to a lifes work prioritising purification and simplicity – “”to cut down to the simplest possible design of four legs, a seat, and a combined back and armrest” while maintaining comfort and beauty.
